Cast Iron Deep Dish Pizza

Who doesn’t love a deep dish pizza?! I could eat this once a week. Let’s also talk about how amazing the cast iron is in this recipe. Every kitchen needs one. Honestly. I was lucky enough to inherit this beauty once my beloved Nonna passed. Every time I use it I think of her, which makes it even more special. I’d like to think everything that cooks in it has a bit of her love in it #warmfuzzyfeels.

Ingredients (I’ll make this real simple):

  • Dough- homemade or store bought in the freezer section (we adore Tito’s)
  • Sauce, homemade or store bought (why is the Zia Italiana sauce so good at Kroger?!)
  • Cheese- we used cheddar, Parmesan and mozzarella- really we were just cleaning out the fridge
  • Any topping you want. We used pepperoni (turkey and regular), banana peppers and ham

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your oven to 500 F. Place your cast iron in there while it heats up. This is important! You want your skillet HOT.
  1. While the skillet is heating, shape your dough into a disc shape. This should be large enough to fit your skillet.3. After about 10 minutes, pull the skillet out and carefully place your dough into the hot pan. Be careful! This was just in a 500 degree oven! It might might be pretty, but work the dough up the sides.

4. Load your toppings!

5. Place on the bottom rack of your oven for 12-14 minutes. Let cool for about 10 minutes after to rest a bit.
